Chapter Officially Launched on Tuesday the 3rd October

The South West chapter was officially launched during the visit of William (Bill) P Thorn Jr. the Commercial Attaché from the United States Embassy in London.

The Chapter had been approached by the US Commercial Office to see if we would help in organising an outreach visit to Bristol to meet with local companies. We were pleased to assist and arranged a 2-day schedule for Bill and his assistant Cheryl Withers, where they met with local companies and gained an understanding of the economic and commercial landscape of the area.

After meeting with the Founder Members of the Chapter on the Monday evening Bill was Guest Speaker at our Breakfast Launch Event on Tuesday the 3rd where he spoke about the help provided to companies by the US Commercial Service and how the service works with the various BABC Chapters.

Further information on trans Atlantic trade and how the Chapter and its members are able to assist companies came from other Founder Member speakers including Clive Wray from Business West, Clive Hetherington of Lloyds TSB and Richard Brown of Veale Wasbrough.

The event was well attended by some 50 businesses and kindly hosted by Bristol Zoological Gardens in their Garden Room, an excellent location for conferences and events such as this.

A successful launch to our Chapter and the start of “spreading the message” throughout the South West.

Look out for news of our next event to be posted on our web site soon.

Message to the West of England

Given the strength of transatlantic business based and/or operating in the South West of England, we would be delighted to extend our network into this region through the establishment of a BABC chapter there. So we are happy to support the current initiative to establish a British-American business organisation in this region, and look forward to welcoming it and its members to BABC membership when it is sufficiently established.
